Local students of La Junta, Colorado are
participating in a project that virtually recreates the Bent's Old Fort, which
is Colorado's one of the renowned tourist attractions. Immersive Education is
the benefactor behind this project. Immersive Education uses a popular game
called Minecraft to start; they plan to advance to using more sophisticated engineering
programs as the proceed to further steps. The club is comprised of 20 students
from La Junta High School and Otero Junior College. In their meetings they
strive to build a virtual, three dimensional tourist attraction. The IT
director of the club noted that the simple idea of Bent's Fort being accessible
by somebody in even Japan amazed him.
The club is currently in its toddler stage, familiarizing
its members with 3D building structures through Minecraft. After using
Minecraft, the students proceed to an architectural program called Autocad and
Autocad 3D. The National Park Service is fully supporting the club's
initiative.
